![]() I'm sorry if my English contains grammatical mistakes, as I'm from the Netherlands. Would closing MSI-afterburner after windows startup, keep *all* custom settings or just the OC? (Does my custom fan curve remain intact without restarting?) (Or does the overclock somehow get written to the graphics card and survives a restart?)Īt this moment, MSI-afterburner starts with my Windows, and my OC and custom fan-curve is applied automatically.ġ.B. Clockspeeds, fancurves and other overclock related stuff) Naturally, the follow-up question would be if MSI-afterburner needs to be restarted after a system reboot, to apply *all* custom settings? (e.g. I ask because I have an old but still capable system for gaming (See specs below), and want to optimize the system (mainly the CPU in my case) as much as possible.ġ.A. So the main question is if running MSI-afterburner using the auto-start (With Windows) feature affect performance while gaming as opposed to not running MSI-afterburner while gaming? (not taking OC in mind) (Extra workload on CPU?) ![]() While there are more threads about MSI-afterburner and these particular questions, those are mostly outdated or didn't (i.m.o) contain a complete answer.ġ. ![]() Tbh I also thought it's a bug maybe but the behavior is consistent between different GPUs and Overclocking software / versions and I've asked around everyone who tried it could confirm this. Thats just how it is, might be different if auto start is applied, but I've never used it to my recollection so I can't say for sure. OC from Precision X is still applied, and yeah I did check this with GPU-Z it clocks higher than default, because the OC is still active, even when Afterburner seemingly isn't running (after exiting it of course) Open Precision X > load profile > apply > exit precision XĬheck taskmanager, none of the precision X processes active as far I can tell > open Afterburner > do nothing, no loading profiles > So the test I did today (because I wasn't sure how to demonstrate this behavior) was I think part of the misunderstanding here might be that you've maybe used to set Afterburner at start up, I don't do that ever.Īs said it *keeps* the OC even you completely exit, what stops working immediately tho is any monitoring through RTSS and it also doesn't control the fans anymore, however the Nvidia standard fan curve takes over then. I did, they stay even when closing Afterburner. Thanks for reading and if you know somebody struggling with this then please share this guide.Do test, and use some other monitoring software to verify that your clocks are what you set while Afterburner is not loaded. Once you've restarted, if you open up a game you should see the OSD in action. You will probably have to restart Windows for this to take effect. You can also change the position of the OSD by clicking on any of the 4 corner buttons in the bottom right hand square or by clicking on the arrows to adjust the vertical or horizontal height of the OSD. You can also change the colour of the OSD by clicking on the OSD palette circle. You can also change the font and font-size by clicking on the dropdown arrow on Raster 3D. You may also wish to change the rendering mode from the default Vector 2D to Raster 3D. The first changes you'll probably want to make are to enable it to start with windows and minimize on startup. If it is already running, you can open it from the task tray by clicking on the RTSS icon. I personally also have system time shown on my OSD but you can disable this. You can choose to setup hotkeys to enable or disable the OSD. ![]() Tick all the properties you want in your OSD and also tick the "Show In On-Screen Display" checkbox for each item you want shown. Next we move onto the Monitoring tab in Settings. You may want to allow MSI Afterburner to run at startup and open minimized. You don't need voltage control to be unlocked. ![]() If that's the case then no need to download the RTSS installer separately.ĭownload Riva Tuner Statistics Server (RTSS) Standalone - ĭownload MSI Afterburner (make sure it's not the Beta version) - įor this example I'm using an RX 480 8GB. Generally the MSI Afterburner installer will have the option to also install RTSS. If you don't have MSI Afterburner installed then make sure to download and install it. If you don't have RTSS installed then make sure to download and install it. You will need to download a few things before we continue.Īlso, the obligatory disclosure that this will only work on Windows. So I figured I'd make a guide for everybody out there struggling. I checked this subforum and to my surprise there was no guide on how to do it. A fair few people have asked me how to setup MSI Afterburner On Screen Display (OSD). ![]()
